Every man who takes birth on this planet has a purpose of life, some discover it early in their life, some a while later and many never during their journey. But it is always inspiring to witness someone living their life's purpose. As they exude happiness, they also express and share their unique talent to the world. And no wonder, they encourage those around them to stop for a while and think of what they are doing with their own lives.
Rene Guenon, in his classic introduction to the study of Hindu Doctrines, comes as close as any author to the meaning of dharma as we will use it here. ‘Dharma,’ he says. ‘ is the essential nature of a being, comprising the sum of its particular qualities or characteristics, and determining, by virtue of the tendencies or dispositions it implies, the manner in which this being will conduct itself, either in a general way or in relation to each particular circumstance.’
- Stephen Cope from The Great Work of your Life
There are four primary parts to fulfilling our higher purpose. Here they are:
Look to your dharma.( Define your purpose)
Do it full out.
Let go of the fruits.
Turn it over to God.
“ They who have no central purpose in their life fall an easy prey into petty worries, fears, troubles, and self pityings, all of which are indications of weakness, which lead, just as surely as deliberately planned sins (though by a different route), to failure, unhappiness, and loss. For weakness cannot persist in a power-evolving universe.
A man should conceive of a legitimate purpose in his heart, and set out to accomplish it. He should make this purpose the centralizing point of his thoughts. It may take the form of a spiritual ideal, or it may be a worldly object, according to his nature at the time being; but whichever it is, he should steadily focus his thought forces upon the object which he has set before him. He should make this purpose his supreme duty, and should devout himself to its attainment, not allowing his thought to wonder away into ephemeral fancies, longings, and imaginings. Even if he fails again and again to accomplish his purpose ( as he necessarily must until weakness is overcome), the strength of character gained will be the measure of his true success, and this will form a new starting point for future power and triumph.”
- James Allen from As a Man Thinketh
“ If one dream should fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those pieces up and begin again”
- Flavia Weedn
